Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter à la troisième séance du séminaire du GRBirmanie, pour laquelle nous aurons le plaisir d’accueillir Helena Cing Deih Sian, architecte et chercheuse indépendante, pour une intervention intitulée :
 
Being In Place: An Ongoing Research on Counter-Narratives and Counter-Monuments in Myanmar

Abstract: the research examines the contemporary significance of the social-cultural and spatial heritage in Yangon/Myanmar. Triggered and inspired by the Civil Disobedience Movement against the Military coup in 2021, BEINGINPLACE juxtaposes the contested spatial and social aspects of the ideological narratives of the military dictatorship that become official and institutionalised. Helena has interviewed witnesses involved during the country’s political uprisings. Their testimonies provide counter-narratives that allow us to un-gaze the status quo of heritage in Yangon, Myanmar.  It highlights outstanding cases of what might be called an official Myanmar version of damnatio memoriae. Helena showcases the results of her research, 14 “Civic Spaces”, in exhibitions and continues elaborating and discussing these remembrance sites during workshops with the Myanmar Diaspora.
